What Radar does
- Screens payment attempts (successful, declined, blocked and flagged for review) on cards, wallets and some other payment methods.
- Comes in several plans: card-testing prevention and fraud alerts on every plan; default rules, risk levels and fraud analytics from Standard; risk scores, custom rules, manual reviews and adaptive 3-D Secure on Plus and Pro.
- Charges a fee for each screened transaction on the Standard, Plus and Pro plans.
What it can't stop
- Friendly fraud: the real cardholder paid, so the payment looks legitimate; the dispute comes later.
- Service disputes: not received, not as described, credit not processed and subscription disputes depend on delivery, product and refund records, not on a payment score.
- Payments it allowed: any payment Radar lets through can still be disputed, and early fraud warnings still arrive on some.
Example: card testing stopped, parcels still disputed
A Stripe store blocks a burst of card-testing attempts with Radar and sees fewer fraud disputes the next month. Its "product not received" disputes don't move, because those depend on carrier delivery scans and tracking emails. It adds a shipped email with tracking for every order and keeps the delivery scan for each dispute.

More questions
Is Stripe Radar free?
It depends on the plan. Stripe's documentation says the Standard, Plus and Pro plans charge a fee for each transaction Radar screens, and that fees apply only when Radar screens a transaction. Check Stripe's Radar pricing page for your account's rates.
Does Radar help me win disputes?
Indirectly. Radar's job is to stop fraud before the charge. Winning a dispute depends on evidence matched to the reason code; for a fraud claim that is proof the cardholder took part, such as card checks, the checkout IP and earlier undisputed orders.
