Where digital goods disputes come from
- Card-absent fraud. Instant delivery attracts stolen cards and card testing, because there is no shipping address to check: Visa 10.4 or Mastercard 4837.
- Not received. The buyer says the download link, license key or account never arrived: Visa 13.1.
- Not as described. The file, course or software did not do what the page promised: Visa 13.3 or Mastercard 4853.
- Small digital purchases. Mastercard handles disputed digital goods purchases of USD or EUR 25 or less under 4853; the legacy code was 4841.
- Friendly fraud. The buyer used the product and disputes anyway. See friendly fraud.
The evidence that answers them
With no carrier scan, the proof is access: the delivery email, download or activation timestamps, the IP and device that accessed the product, and later use. For Visa 10.4, Compelling Evidence 3.0 lets prior undisputed purchases from the same IP or device speak for the cardholder.
How Verdikx fits
Verdikx is a fraud, chargeback and dispute platform for e-commerce and SaaS merchants, built by Verdikx LLC (New Jersey, United States).
- Checkout facts on every order (every plan). Checkout IP with AVS and CVV results, order history and customer messages are saved as they happen on Shopify and WooCommerce (beta) orders.
- Access logs you supply. Verdikx does not see downloads, license activations or logins inside your delivery platform. Add them to a case as an evidence note through the API or Zapier (Growth), or upload a PDF, JPEG or PNG export in the case's evidence checklist.
- Compelling Evidence 3.0. For Visa 10.4, Verdikx looks for at least two prior undisputed orders from 120 to 364 days earlier that share the IP or device plus another identifier.
- Early fraud warning refunds (Growth, Stripe). Under a policy you turn on, a Stripe early fraud warning on a digital order under your cap is refunded automatically, so the chargeback never arrives.
- Order screening (Growth). Risk scores flag Tor and data-center IPs, order velocity and devices linked to past chargebacks. See order screening.
Where Verdikx does not fit
- If your digital store runs on a platform Verdikx does not connect to, disputes still arrive by forwarded email or CSV, but there is no order screening or automatic checkout capture.
- Card-network pre-dispute alerts (Visa RDR and Mastercard Ethoca) are coming soon, not available today.
- It does not guarantee outcomes. Issuers and card networks decide disputes.
Frequently asked questions
How do you prove delivery of a digital product?
Show the delivery email, the download or activation timestamps, and the IP or device that accessed the product, ideally matching the one used at checkout. Later use, such as logins after the purchase date, answers not-received and many fraud claims.
Does Verdikx capture download logs automatically?
No. Verdikx records checkout facts on Shopify and WooCommerce (beta) orders, but it does not see downloads or logins in your delivery platform. Send them through the API or Zapier as evidence notes, or upload an export to the case.
Can Verdikx refund early fraud warnings on digital orders?
Yes, for Stripe early fraud warnings on the Growth plan and up. Under a policy you turn on, Verdikx refunds when the amount is under your cap and the order is digital or unfulfilled; otherwise it recommends.
