How the calculator works
- VAMP ratio = (fraud reports, TC40 + disputes, TC15) ÷ settled card-not-present transactions (TC05), all in the same calendar month.
- A merchant is identified as Excessive only when the ratio and the monthly minimum are both met. In the US, Canada, Europe and Asia Pacific the level is 1.5% from 1 April 2026 (2.2% from 1 June 2025 to 31 March 2026); Latin America and Caribbean uses 1.5%; CEMEA uses 2.2% with at least 150 counts and USD 75,000.
- Below the line, the calculator uses the same bands as the Verdikx dashboard: worth watching from 0.65%, close to the line from 1%.
- Visa doesn't publish its fee amounts in the fact sheet, so the calculator shows none; ask your acquirer how they are passed on.
What it leaves out
Visa excludes disputes resolved through pre-dispute services and fraud reports that qualified for Compelling Evidence 3.0, subject to the timing of its data extract. Your processor's numbers may be grouped by statement descriptor and acquirer, and acquirers can act well before the merchant level: Visa's acquirer portfolio thresholds start at 0.5%. The full, sourced breakdown is in chargeback ratio thresholds.
Bringing the ratio down
- Refund early when an early fraud warning arrives: the fraud report still counts, but the dispute doesn't follow.
- Screen orders before they ship and hold the risky ones (prevention).
- Make your billing descriptor recognisable and your refund policy easy to find, so fewer customers dispute instead of asking.
Frequently asked questions
How is the VAMP ratio calculated?
Visa adds the fraud reports (TC40) and disputes (TC15) received in a month and divides them by the settled card-not-present transactions (TC05) in the same month. A transaction that has both a fraud report and a dispute counts twice, according to Stripe's documentation.
What is the VAMP Excessive threshold in 2026?
For merchants it is 1.5% with at least 1,500 fraud reports plus disputes a month in the US, Canada, Europe, Asia Pacific and Latin America and Caribbean (the first four moved from 2.2% on 1 April 2026). CEMEA uses 2.2% with at least 150 counts and USD 75,000.
Does a refund stop a fraud report from counting?
No. A fraud report (TC40) counts toward VAMP even if you refund the order. Refunding before a dispute is filed can still avoid the dispute (TC15) and its fee, so the order counts once instead of twice.
Is this my official VAMP status?
No. It is an estimate from the numbers you enter. Visa identifies merchants from its own data, and your acquirer can apply stricter limits, so confirm with your acquirer or processor.
