Verdikx vs ClearSale at a glance
| Feature | Verdikx | ClearSale |
|---|---|---|
| Fraud screening before fulfillment | Yes, on Growth and up: after the order is placed and before it ships (Verdikx never blocks checkout), a 0 to 100 risk score with plain-English reasons on new Shopify orders, IP intelligence, a storefront device pixel, blocklists and Verdikx Network history; High-risk orders are held for your review, and custom risk rules are on Pro | Fraud screening that combines AI models with review by fraud specialists[1] |
| Who decides on a risky order | You do. Verdikx scores the order and explains why, holds High-risk orders for your review (on by default) and runs rules you write on Pro. Verdikx never cancels an order on its own. With order screening (Growth and up), it holds risky Shopify orders and orders from customers you block, and you decide whether to cancel. Autopilot never accepts a dispute | ClearSale approves or declines; merchants pay only when it approves an order[2] |
| Shared merchant network | Opt-in Verdikx Network (new, so signals are few at first): stores that join share chargeback and refund-abuse outcomes as keyed one-way hashes (HMAC-SHA256), never raw customer data; a shopper is flagged only once three other participating merchant accounts report them, and your decisions and blocklists are never shared | Not publicly stated |
| Chargeback management | Yes: an evidence record for every order, AI-assisted drafts and submission for Shopify Payments and Stripe (live), more processors in beta, and chargebacks from any processor or bank by email or CSV | Chargeback Ops, a dispute handling service[1] |
| Returns and refund abuse | Yes, on Growth and up: refund-abuse scores, customer risk profiles and return-request recommendations (approve, review or decline-recommended) with reasons | Not publicly stated |
| Pricing model | Flat subscription (billed through Shopify for Shopify stores, by card for others): Starter $29, Growth $79, Pro $199 a month, yearly saves 20%. Not a percentage of recovered chargebacks or of order value: Verdikx takes no cut of what you win back | ClearSale's Growth plans start at $250 a month; it charges only for approved orders (declined orders cost nothing), with custom pricing for 50,000+ orders a month[2] |
| Guarantee | No outcome guarantee and no chargeback reimbursement: banks and card networks decide disputes, and the merchant keeps fraud liability | Reimburses the merchant if an approved order turns out to be fraudulent[2][3] |
| Store platforms | Shopify app for Shopify stores; WooCommerce (beta) and processor-only workspaces created on verdikx.com and paid by card. BigCommerce, Wix, Squarespace, Magento 2, commercetools, VTEX and Miva connect directly (beta); marketplaces such as Amazon, eBay and Etsy coming soon | Native integrations including Shopify, Magento, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, VTEX and Salesforce Commerce Cloud, plus a REST API[1] |
| Payment processors | Shopify Payments and Stripe live; Braintree, Adyen, Checkout.com, Authorize.net, Klarna and Afterpay in beta; PayPal and Square coming soon; chargeback notices from any processor or bank by email or CSV | Not publicly stated |
| Automation and control | Autopilot on Growth and up: automatic drafts, and opt-in auto-submission only inside merchant-set limits, by default 48 hours before the deadline. Verdikx never cancels an order on its own. With order screening (Growth and up), it holds risky Shopify orders and orders from customers you block, and you decide whether to cancel. Autopilot never accepts a dispute | AI decisions with review by fraud specialists[1] |
| AI-written dispute responses | AI-assisted drafts the merchant can review and edit, and an AI claim check that sets the cardholder's claim against the store's records: AI drafts and the AI claim check for 10 cases a month on Starter (one shared count), unlimited AI drafts and AI claim checks (fair use) on Growth and Pro | Not publicly stated |
| Card-network alerts (RDR, Ethoca) | Stripe early fraud warnings with auto-refund policies (live, Growth and up); Visa RDR and Mastercard Ethoca alerts coming soon | Not publicly stated |
| Free trial | 7-day free trial on every plan | Not publicly stated |
| Contract and fees | Monthly or yearly plan through Shopify Billing for Shopify stores; cancel anytime | No setup or onboarding fees and no long-term contracts; free to install on Shopify, with charges billed separately[2][3] |
The short version
Verdikx is a fraud, chargeback and dispute platform for e-commerce and SaaS merchants, made by Verdikx LLC (New Jersey, United States). It installs as a Shopify app, screens new orders for fraud, keeps an evidence record for every order, prepares dispute responses across payment processors and flags returns abuse, on a flat subscription.
ClearSale describes fraud screening that combines AI models with review by fraud specialists, a chargeback guarantee on approved orders and a dispute handling service called Chargeback Ops. Its pricing page lists ClearSale's Growth plans starting at $250 a month, says merchants pay only when ClearSale approves an order (declined orders cost nothing), and states no setup or onboarding fees and no long-term contracts. If an approved order turns out to be fraudulent, ClearSale states that it reimburses the merchant.
The core difference is who carries fraud losses. ClearSale approves or declines orders and reimburses approved orders that turn out to be fraud. Verdikx does not reimburse chargebacks: it helps you answer every dispute type with evidence and, on Growth and Pro, scores each new order with explained risk reasons and holds risky orders for your decision, at a subscription price that does not depend on approved orders.
How to choose
- Price both on your own numbers. Model ClearSale's per-approval pricing on your order volume, then compare with a plan on the pricing page plus the fraud chargebacks you would still absorb.
- Split your chargebacks by reason. Reimbursement on approved orders covers fraud. Friendly fraud, "item not received" and "not as described" disputes usually need evidence and responses.
- Decide who makes the call on risky orders. ClearSale approves or declines; Verdikx shows a risk score with plain-English reasons and leaves the decision to you.
- Check your platform. Confirm your storefront is supported, and at what maturity, on Connections.
When ClearSale is the better choice
- You want fraudulent approved orders reimbursed rather than carrying that risk yourself.
- You want review by fraud specialists alongside automated decisions.
- You want a dispute handling service (Chargeback Ops) from the same provider.
- You sell on a platform Verdikx doesn't connect to yet (Verdikx connects Shopify, WooCommerce (beta), BigCommerce, Wix, Squarespace, Magento 2, commercetools, VTEX and Miva (direct, beta); marketplaces such as Amazon, eBay and Etsy are coming soon).
When Verdikx is the better choice
- You want a cost that does not grow with approved orders: a subscription from $29 a month with a 7-day free trial, and no share of what you win back.
- You want the final say on risky orders: from Growth up, Verdikx scores each order after it is placed and before it ships, with plain-English reasons, holds High-risk orders for your review and never cancels an order on its own.
- Many of your disputes are friendly fraud, "item not received" or "not as described", where evidence matters more than reimbursement for fraud. See friendly fraud.
- You want refund and returns abuse reviewed in the same tool, with a recommendation and reasons on each return request (Growth and up).
Verdikx does not guarantee dispute outcomes or reimburse chargebacks: banks and card networks decide disputes.
