What American Express P01 means

The account number does not exist or is not assigned to the Card Member, typically because the card was replaced or the number was keyed incorrectly without authorization.

Common causes

  • Subscription renewals on a canceled or replaced card
  • Manual entry of a mistyped card number without authorization
  • Stored card numbers not refreshed after reissue

Evidence that answers it

  • Authorization approval obtained for that card number
  • Electronic charge record showing the card was read
  • Proof of an offsetting credit

How to prevent it

  • Authorize every transaction, including renewals
  • Use account updater or network tokens so stored cards stay current
  • Never process keyed numbers without an approval

How Verdikx helps with P01

Verdikx's processing-error playbook asks for the processor's authorization record for that card number and keeps the response technical. Subscription charge history from Recharge, Skio, Bold, Recurly or Chargebee (beta) helps show which card each renewal used.
