American Express reason code P05:
Incorrect Charge Amount

Amex P05 means the amount you charged differs from what the Card Member agreed to pay, often because of shipping, tax, restocking or delayed charges they did not expect. Win with proof they agreed to the amount or to additional charges on that card, an itemized receipt substantiating the total, or proof of credit.

What American Express P05 means

The Card Member disputes the amount, not the purchase. Amex lists addition errors, unexpected fees and taxes, delayed charges and refunds smaller than expected.

Common causes

  • Shipping, duties or taxes added after the customer saw a lower total
  • Restocking fee deducted from a refund without clear disclosure
  • Currency conversion surprises
  • Delayed charges (damage, incidentals) without consent

Evidence that answers it

  • Itemized receipt or invoice showing how the total was calculated
  • Checkout screen or order confirmation showing the final total the customer approved
  • Customer consent to any later or additional charge
  • Fee policy (restocking, change fees) as disclosed before purchase

How to prevent it

  • Show the full total, including shipping, duties and taxes, before payment
  • Get written consent before any additional or delayed charge
  • Disclose restocking and cancellation fees clearly

How Verdikx helps with P05

Verdikx's incorrect-amount playbook asks for the itemized order total the customer approved and the policies that explain any fee, pulled from your Shopify order. If the overcharge is real, it tells you to refund the difference instead. You review the AI draft.
