What Shopify Protect covers
Shopify describes Shopify Protect as protecting eligible Shop Pay orders against fraudulent and unrecognized chargebacks, at no cost. Which orders are eligible is set out on Shopify's Help Center, so check whether an order is covered before spending time on a response.
What it doesn't cover
- Other dispute reasons. Item not received, not as described and credit not processed disputes still need evidence and a response from you.
- Orders outside Shop Pay, or not eligible. They follow the normal Shopify Payments process: the disputed amount and a fee ($15 in the United States) are withdrawn straight away, and you usually have 7 to 21 days to respond in Shopify admin.
- Fraud analysis. Shopify's fraud analysis rates orders and shows risk indicators, but it doesn't cancel or hold orders for you and doesn't cover chargebacks. See what a high-risk Shopify order means.
Shopify isn't involved in deciding outcomes: the cardholder's bank decides, and if you lose a Shopify Payments chargeback there is no appeal.
Where Verdikx fits
Verdikx imports Shopify Payments disputes automatically, saves each order's evidence when the order is placed, applies the playbook for the reason code and drafts the response with AI for you to review. It doesn't insure orders or reimburse chargebacks. See Shopify chargebacks.
