What Shopify shows
Shopify's built-in fraud analysis rates each order as low, medium or high risk of a chargeback and lists the fraud indicators behind it, such as AVS and CVV results, location mismatches and unusual device or network activity. According to Shopify's Help Center, the indicators are available on the Basic plan and up, while recommendations such as "Consider canceling this order" need the Grow plan or higher, or Shopify Payments. Some order types, including subscription renewals, don't receive recommendations. Shopify Protect separately covers eligible Shop Pay orders against fraudulent and unrecognized chargebacks.
What to do with a high-risk order
- Don't cancel automatically: cancelling a good order loses a customer.
- Check the address and the customer's history, and contact the customer.
- For borderline cases, ask for an authenticated payment.
- Cancel when the evidence points to fraud. Shipping a fraudulent order loses the goods plus a chargeback fee, and the dispute usually arrives as a fraud code such as Visa 10.4 or Mastercard 4837.
Where Verdikx fits
Verdikx uses Shopify's own rating as one signal (a high rating adds 40 points) alongside its own, such as IP intelligence, velocity, blocklists and chargeback history, and gives each new order a 0 to 100 score with plain-English reasons after it is placed and before it ships. It holds risky orders for your review and never cancels on its own. Order screening is on Growth and up. See Shopify fraud detection.
