What Visa 11.3 means

For transactions completed on or after 13 April 2024, the issuer can dispute when an authorization was required but not obtained, was obtained for a lower amount, or when the transaction (authorized or not) was not processed within Visa's time limit.

Common causes

  • Capturing an authorization after it expired, for example shipping late on a preorder
  • Capturing more than the authorized amount (tips, shipping or add-ons added later)
  • Batching transactions days late
  • Split shipments captured long after the original authorization

Evidence that answers it

  • Processor record of an approved authorization covering the full captured amount
  • Evidence the transaction date used was wrong and the transaction was properly authorized
  • Receipt or processing records showing the transaction was presented within the time limit
  • Proof of a credit or reversal

How to prevent it

  • Capture within your authorization's validity window, or reauthorize before capturing
  • Authorize the final amount, or obtain an incremental authorization for increases
  • Settle batches daily
  • For preorders and backorders, authorize close to the ship date

Time limits and caveats

Allocation workflow. Issuer time limit: 75 calendar days from the transaction processing date (some regional exceptions apply).

How Verdikx helps with 11.3

Verdikx's authorization playbook for 11.3 asks for the processor's authorization record (code, date and amount) next to the order it covers, so you can check whether the capture matched an approval in time. If it did, the AI draft cites those records for your review; if not, accept.
